Designing Subdivision Surfaces through Control Mesh Refinement

چکیده
Trimmer Class STrimmer is the abstract base surface trimmer class. For every refinement level it defines the trimming of a surface along each control mesh dimension. This trimming is represent by a Start vector and an End vector, where the size of the vector is equal to the control mesh dimension. Each element in these vectors represent the number of control vertices that need to be trimmed from the corresponding side. For example, on a two dimensional domain space, the control mesh can be trimmed from the left,

Semi-Regular 4-8 Refinement and Box Spline Surfaces
In this paper we introduce a new mesh refinement method for subdivision surfaces. It generates a semiregular 4-direction hierarchical structure from control meshes representing 2D manifolds of arbitrary topology. The main advantage of this structure is that it allows the extraction of conforming variable-resolution meshes based on spatially varying adaptation functions. We also present a smooth...
متن کامل4-8 Subdivision
In this paper we introduce 4–8 subdivision, a new scheme that generalizes the fourdirectional box spline of class C to surfaces of arbitrary topological type. The crucial advantage of the proposed scheme is that it uses bisection refinement as an elementary refinement operation, rather than more commonly used face or vertex splits. In the uniform case, bisection refinement results in doubling, ...
متن کاملAdaptive Rendering of Catmull-Clark Subdivision Surfaces based on Inscribed Approximation
Subdivision provides a powerful scheme for building smooth and complex surfaces. But the number of faces in the uniformly refined meshes increases exponentially with respect to subdivision depth. Adaptive rendering reduces the number of faces needed to yield a smooth approximation to the limit surface and, consequently, makes the rendering process more efficient. In this paper, we present a new...
متن کاملRay Tracing of Subdivision Surfaces
We present the necessary theory for the integration of subdivision surfaces into general purpose rendering systems. The most important functionality that has to be provided via an abstract geometry interface are the computation of surface points and normals as well as the ray intersection test. We demonstrate how to derive the corresponding formulas and how to construct tight bounding volumes f...
